The Himawari-8 Real-time Web is an application via big-data technologies developed by the NICT Science Cloud project in NICT (National Institute of Information and Communications Technology), Japan. Development is in collaboration with JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) and CEReS (Center of Environmental Remote Sensing, Chiba University). Himawari-8 Shortwave Infrared (3.9 µm) and “Clean” Infrared Window (10.4 µm) images (below) showed the development of 2 pyrocumulonimbus (pyroCb) clouds — the first over southern New South Wales west of Cooma (station identifier YCOM), and the second to the southwest of YCOM (near the border between Victoria and New South Wales). Himawari 9 is a Japanese weather satellite, the 9th of the Himawari geostationary weather satellite operated by the Japan Meteorological Agency. The spacecraft was constructed by Mitsubishi Electric, and is the second of two similar satellites to be based on the DS-2000 bus. EEC prides itself on our long history of application of the ISO 9001 for manufacturing weather radar and satellite ground station systems.
As a geostationary satellite, Himawari 8 is always above the same area, roughly over Indonesia & Papua New Guinea. from n2yo.comand during this particular period? I guess it's because of the earth's axial tilt. Geostationary satellites are always right above the equator.
